Windows update not working because service not running
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to: C:Windows folder. Step 3: Start Windows Update Service. Now go back to Windows Services control panel: 2. Right-click on Windows Update service and select ' Start '. Try to check for Updates again.
Step 1: To extend system partition , you had better use the bootable edition. Step 2: Connect it to your computer and boot from it. Step 3: Choose the system drive. Then choose Extend Partition from left pane or choose Extend from context menu.
Step 4: Then open the dropdown list from the Take Free Space from menu and choose any partition or unallocated space on the same drive to take free space. Meanwhile, you also can drag the sliding handle to decide how much free space you want to take.
Then press the OK button to continue. Step 5: Choose the Apply button on the top of the menu to extend system partition. It can extend partition without data loss. Compared with extending volume by Disk Management, MiniTool Partition Wizard can extend partition even though there is no adjacent unallocated space on the right of the system partition.
Therefore, MiniTool Partition Wizard is more convenient to extend partition. It can take space from the nonadjacent unallocated space. So in order to solve this problem, you can run System File Checker to check and repair the corrupted system files. Step 1: Type Command Prompt in the search box of Windows 10 and right-click it to choose the Run as administrator.

A bit late as an answer, but I found that the problem for me was that windows update itself needed an update. Solution: turn off automatic updates, manually check for updates, install the windows update update, set auto again.

Thanks Brook - your fix worked perfectly for me. Yeah, this really works! Monday, November 12, AM. It was already clear to me that new disc drives played some role in these. A new Rapid Storage driver was often the solution. Not in my case. But perhaps the drive itself is the cause. I decided to recreate and reformat the partitions and put it back in the laptop.

I just downloaded the latest drivers from Intel and updated the driver from device manager for the IDE controller. Friday, January 4, AM.
